Lesson overview
In this project, students will learn about the cultural significance of Dias de Los Muertos, most commonly known as Day of The Dead. Students will create unique designs on skulls inspired by sugar skulls used within the holiday tradition, showcasing their understanding of symmetry and balance within their designs. Students will also write about a loved one in which they would create an ofrenda for on this holiday.
Learning Objectives:
1. Through creating sugar skull designs, students will learn how to create symmetry through the usage of colors, patterns, and shapes.
2. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the techniques in balance and variety when creating their designs.
3. Students will analyze the historical tradition of Dias de Los Muertos, what sugar skulls represent, and who they would create an ofrenda for in their life.
Lesson name: Animal Eye Portrait
Lesson overview
In this project, students will be creating their own animal eye portraits. They will observe and study the detailed designs within an animal eye. Students will demonstrate understanding of texture, color, and shapes. Students will also be practicing their skills with colored pencils when it comes to color combinations, layering, and creating texture with art supplies.
Objectives:
1. Through creating animal eye portraits, students will learn how to create texture through the usage of colors, patterns, and shapes.
2. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the techniques in contrast and depth when creating their portraits.
3. Students will analyze the process of layering and blending colored pencils in order to create color variations.
