My goal as an artist is to always make sure whatever I create is authentic. I like to make sure my creations come from my heart and mind, not just the aimless abyss. My art will represent who I am as a person, therefore whatever I put on the canvas must be some sort of replication of me. Likewise, as a teacher, my goal is to get students to create art shamelessly. I want them to create what they are passionate about. I was lucky enough to find my artistic voice growing up and learn to create artwork that would soon represent who I am as an artist, and now it is my job to teach my students to do the same.
“Being an artist means creating with a purpose. One artist can vary from another due to their different emotions, experiences, and passions. The essence that all artists share is the desire to create. We pick up paintbrushes with the intent to make something from nothing. The canvas is where we leave impressions of ourselves- everything we feel, know, love, and desire. What we leave on the canvas becomes a window into our very souls.”
